Susan Doherty Artist

My artistic centre and home for the last 3 decades has been in the rainforest in Kuranda, Far North Queensland.

The re-purposing of found objects has been a constant in my sculptural practice, bringing attention to what we discard as rubbish, changing the useless to the meaningful, making small comments on our consumer world.

The techniques I use are often unconventional, and always evolving. My journey of collecting and creating art work pays homage to the playful joy of making and using visuals to share my story.

Combining the organic and man-made blending, stitching, weaving and wrapping is often a signature of my art practice, with much of my inspiration coming from the natural world and the immense beauty of the Australian bush. My art practice is a constant in my life and has taken me to the far corners of the world to study and practise art (India, Vietnam and Indonesia) or to play and create art (Artist in Residence at the Burren College of Art, Ireland).
